An American Obsession: The Automobile

Your automobile has many natural enemies which work to remove the new car shine of your paint. Acid rain, pollution, tree sap and dirt all contribute to the oxidation and dulling of your paint. Left untreated, these contaminants damage your expensive clear coat and painted finish. The oxidation and embeded dirt in your paint are what cause the lack of shine.

Washing a vehicle alone isn't enough to restore its luster and appearance. There are many techniques professional detailers employ to restore a vehicle's finish. The type of work performed depends on the condition of the paint and clear coat. Brand new vehicles which have been waxed frequently may only require a good hand washing. Vehicles which have not been waxed require buffing to restore the paint's luster. Finally vehicles with heavy oxidation and stains may require buffing with a rubbing compound and polish to restore the paint.

Most vehicle interiors today are easily cleaned with simple, non-toxic cleaners for fabric, carpet, vinyl and leather. Like your expensive paint, the surfaces inside need to be frequently cleaned to prevent permanent staining and cracking-fading of the fabrics. A good leather or vinyl conditioner will keep your seats, dash and trim clean and crack free.
